you are right, I made a mistake when I wrote that. I apologise-
sterling is not good enough.
Fine silver is 99.92% purity, and that is what I use. Many people feel
the difference in quality between .9992 and .9999 is so small as to be
negligible. Many many people use the 3 nines silver.

Local jewelry supply stores usually carry fine silver wire, which is
plenty good enough to start with. Try to find the largest diameter
wire you can, mine had 12 gauge, but I think any would work, just the
small stuff (20 gauge) would not last as long.
