Hi folks, I do hope nobody will be too shocked to discover that some of our members participate in and/or approve of hunting.
Natural populations experience cycles of growth, saturation, starvation and die-off. Managed hunting is one way to siphon off some of that surplus energy and can spare the (rest of the) herd from the cruel effects of gross overpopulation. Of course, the whole concept depends on the assumption that we have some inherent right to kill and eat some of the other creatures that share the planet with us, and/or the obligation to somehow protect them from the consequences of their own natural behaviors. It has the potential to be an interesting debate, but it is *certainly* beyond the scope of our charter! Instead, we'll let other members make those choices for themselves and leave them be, okay? Thank you. The Off Topic list is also available if anyone would care to continue the discussion over there. See the list web site for instructions for subscribing to it: www.silverlist.org Be well!
