Steven,
A few things I forgot.

There is a possibility that you could short out a home or work phone

older buildings or older homes.
Anything is a possibility, if you don't know what you are doing.
You can kill yourself with common old house wires, in fraction of a
second, if you try hard enough.
Work Phone Systems ?
In would prefer the term, Office phone system.
I wonder if you have dug into them very much.
Most office "Phone Systems" are very different that the standard 48
to 52 Volt DC system.
Some are genuine Phone company systems, many are installed by
private contractors,
many different brands exist.
Some are very good, some are not so good, and some are JUNK !
My company services many types, even genuine Phone company systems
because the phone company charges and arm and a leg. Often we fix
them in a few minutes, ( not always ) and many times we do not even
charge the customer anything.
It depends on the customer, how many years they have been a customer,
and what all other products and systems they buy from us.
Yes, we sell and install phone systems too.
It is very easy to tell if you have a phone system that is compatible
with a CS phone generator.
If one cannot tell that, ....... he should not be monkeying around
with any phone system.
In case you missed it, this labor day is 30 years since I started my business.
Not exactly a "Fly by Night" operator. <grin>
