Also, is your stirrer bar ceramic or rubber coated? I read somewhere that the rubber coated disintegrates fairly quickly but it was being used at higher speed stirring yeast in beer. - Steve N

I bought both types, the ones without the 'ring', and the ones with the 'ring' on them. The ones without that ring are supposed to keep the bottom of the container clean while they spin. I've used both types but personally I don't think it matters for our purpose. Use a bar magnet with a o-ring around the center of the bar. I stole the o-ring idea from a good source. Then shrink electrical shrink tubing around the bar and seal the ends of the tubing with GOOP or hot melt glue. I suspect that the hot glue may not work but then it may.
