I use "Avant Browser" (freeware) which is an overlay of Internet Explorer. It has buttons for shutting off pictures and flash animations, as well as pop-ups which is very useful. You can also shut off other stuff from a convenient pulldown menu. I can't stand reading stuff on the computer when something else is moving on the page!
