Relative to using your Koi pond bentonite, I read from one bentonite supplier that the top 12 in. of a bentonite deposit is sold for Koi pond use. The next 12 to 24 in. is sold for bath and animal feed use. And everything below that is sold for human consumption. I don't know if all suppliers follow a similar rule but you may find that info helpful. Personally I would probably go ahead and use it. - Steve N
