I'm no professional, and didn't review the study designs, but I have
seen at least one study in the past in which the silver was imobilized
in an agar gel medium and thus prevented from contacting the tested
bacteria which were applied on top of the agar (or whatever was used).
Don't know if that one was deliberate or done out of ignorance that
silver needs to be able to contact bacteria in a liquid medium to be
effective. (Read that particular study years ago, and don't have the
link now).
