DE [or saw dust] is used to keep Nitroglycerine molecules isolated from each other to prevent shock from becoming explosive...a sort of De-component.

I doubt that DE would ever reach the blood stream, but could absorb and isolate certain things that might. [making YOU more shock resistant ? ]
 Charcoal will do that too [burnt sawdust]
