Hi all, Lugol's iodine/iodide solution 5% is good for water purification at 6 or more drops per quart, if I remember correctly (verify this yourself please before trying it).
The iodine flavour imparted into the water can be reduced by adding lime or lemon juice AFTER waiting for the purification process to be complete itself, which I believe is about 10 minutes, generally. MMS is another possibility and costs even less per dose.
