There is a big difference between GMO and Hybrids...but GMO seeds can also be Hybrids.

Replant any seed taken from a mature Hybrid plant and it won't generally breed true to the original Hybrid...you'll get a spread of the "naturally" combined genes.

A GMO "spliced" genome is unique and won't de-hydridize, but often has a suicide gene spliced in that prevents germination into further generations.

On the other hand "Heirloom" seeds will stay the same from generation to generation, but don't have the advantages [or dis-advantages] of Hybrids. If you keep choosing the best of the second generation Hybrids over a few generations, you wind up with a decent Heirloom.
The only way to keep a Hybrid true is to clone it with cuttings.

Your squash may or may not be GMO, but it is certainly a Hybrid. ie "bred to have certain characteristics" vs "engineered into a whole different thang"

I wonder if the seeds would make customs over here in Germany, or if they would be returned to sender :-( I guess I should just give the company a call before I spend time picking seeds to order.

We have, apparently, GMO butternuts, cause we've already tried 3 yrs in a row, to grow butternuts from the seeds taken from the squash we buy directly from the farmer. When I asked him what the deal was, why we never really got any decent squash, he told us he had to buy new seeds every year. I hadn't heard of Monsanto at the time, but it sure did click when I watched the movie about Monsanto.

So Not Man owns 90% of all seed genes. Some of them are engineered to be sterile, so you have to buy and buy.. BTW Monsanto created DDT, Agent Orange and Aspartame. Do you want such people in charge of what you eat?

Seeds guaranteed non GMO and un So Not Man tainted. Deadline for orders March 10

Steve,

It's not GMO involvement, that kills, but Monsanto's pesticides... its on the plant, in the soil and IN the plant.

Who owns ScienceDaily, anyway.

There are two main theories about the bee population problem.

One is a nasty parasite - read about promising developments at this site - <http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/04/090414084627.htm>http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/04/090414084627.htm

There is also a theory that certain pesticides interfere with the honeybees' ability to find their way home. Having some trouble finding a site for that.

No evidence of GMO involvement.

Makes me wonder if the GMO food is what has affected the bee population?
Something to look into, if it's truly affecting mice and pigs this way.
