FYI: Nausea/vomiting may be (intense) Kidney Stone PAIN and not the excess Water, also beware, that a normal electrolyte-balance, may be unbalanced by excess Water? For flushing Stone(s) there is no need to CHUG water down, like sailors drinking Beer, but might suggest drinking through straw, or taking small sip...as you try to keep your Bladder loaded-up (through Kidney's output)...giving frequent urination, to flush stones. Also while actually urinating...it seems to help me, if I rub and manipulate pain areas? NO...(you have a dirty mind), I'm talking about on-back, over kidney and on-down side, using fingers and palm of hand to try to get gentile tissue movement deep inside body. Do not take this as being MEDICAL ADVICE I'm discussing...MY, Personal STONES! My first kidney stone encounter was back in 1980 (thought I was going to die), but here I am still alive, after having now PASSED...perhaps more than 100 over PAST 30 years. Good news is, except for that very first ONE (passed after 36 hrs. in Hospital.....), every other one was passed at home (typically within 12~48 hours)...using mostly cold water, with some (diluted) Gatorade added. In recent years I'm mixing Gatorade, in Green Tea as some variety in-between every 3rd glass of Cold Bottled water, I use only 1oz. of GA dry-power mix, to 16 oz of either bottled Water, or 16 oz. bottles (DIET) Lipton Iced Tea. NOTE: With (excessive) H20 intake to Flush stones, may also Flush out...electrolytes? In the hospital room, nurses checked about twice an hour to top-off Styrofoam pitcher of (plain?) H20/Water, over crushed ice. After 8~12 hrs. of ice-water torture session I saw my family doctor while making his evening rounds and told him my pain shots were fine, but I thought all that ICED WATER was going to kill me? He said, that was not likely to happen...since that IV Drip line in my arm, was not only to get more liquids to Flush out Stone(s) that might be (lightly) stuck in the lower plumbing paths, but also it was taking care of my body electrolyte loss...due to constantly drinking all of that (plain) ice water. Short time later, nurse brought me a can of Welches Grape Juice (still, partially frozen). Doctor said to add it to next few cups of Ice Water...then pretend it's Grape WINE.<G> Later nurse offered me apple juice, but NOT any 'orange' juice...O.J. can cause stones! Week or so later, during a follow-up office visit, Dr. told me my PASSED Kidney Stone, was typical small size and chemical composition...being crystallized Calcium Oxalate, which was likely Oxalic Acid, from my Orange Juice and Calcium from Dairy Products? Nothing to worry about, since it was SMALL stone (not a BOLDER as I imagined)! <G> My future prognosis (having been able to FLUSH it...with only increased urinary output), indicated that, while I may get stones in future, but..."They too, Shall Come to Pass"..? Doctor said, I'm giving you good supply of pain pills...so you can try to FLUSH Stone at home, during first 72 hours, but after that...would need to go to a Hospital...for Surgery? Not sure exact count, but get STONED with 2~3 every year and still PASSED at home. Mr I.P. Something to think about if you have low blood pressure. I am currently on remedy for gallstones, i wonder if anyone knows if the same remedies that work for kidney stones will work for gallstones if so i'd be happy to share it. But I got about half the quart down in one sitting, then sipped the rest as I could tolerate it. It worked for me.
