Hi folks, I'm back. I just spent the last hour reading the >100 messages posted in the "another question about..." thread! In the last 24 hours!
Y'all have reached the proper conclusion on your own. Yes, this discussion needs to be moved to the OT list. See: www.silverlist.org ... for instructions for signing up. Just subscribe to it like you did this one, preferably from the same address so as not to confuse the list server. You have to be a member of the main list to participate in the OT list. The "hints" from the regulars were right on target, but those folks were being forced to try to do my job for me, which isn't fair to them or the rest of the group. Let me give the following guidance, particularly for our newer members who haven't been through this cycle with me and the group before: I welcome health-related questions of pretty much any kind. People come here to get help, and I encourage everyone to respond in every way that you consider useful or important. Please continue to share the experiences, knowledge, therapies, products or information sources you've found valuable. I only ask that if the answer doesn't directly relate to CS, that you formulate your answers to satisfy basic curiosity about the subject, point out resources for further research, and answer any direct questions... and then let the subject die, or migrate to private mail, the OT list, or other forums for detailed or lengthy discussions. If it takes a day or two to finish such a side-discussion, so be it. If it's still going on after several days, or begins to dominate message volume, then it is indeed too much. If, during any discussion, you find yourself in disagreement with the beliefs or opinions of other members, please be satisfied with being able to present your point of view, whether you seem to be able to change anybody else's mind or not. Leave it to the individual judgment of those reading to choose who and what they wish to believe. As for politics, religion, esoterica, and other things that are far afield, such as most of the above-mentioned thread, I ask that you resist the temptation to carry on the way we've seen the last several days, and either end the thread or move it to the OT list. The only real exception to the prohibition on politics is brief heads- up messages related to CS or important alternative health matters, with all but the barest MINIMUM of discussion to be taken to the OT list. If you're talking about specific politicians, partisan politics, protest movements, political philosophies, divisive issues (like guns!? for heaven's sake!) ... you're almost CERTAINLY OFF TOPIC and beyond the bounds of proper behavior. Don't make such posts, and don't respond to such posts made by others. This is IMPORTANT: I depend on each member of the group to police their own behavior, and conduct themselves in accordance with the list rules and general guidance such as I am giving now. I don't pre-screen your messages, and I don't intend to referee each thread. Your success as a member depends on my being able to trust you with these priveleges. I have to say that the conversation amongst bodhisattva, Garrick, Ken, and a few others, is the sort of thing that's right up my alley, in any venue other than the main Silver List! Here, it is an imposition upon the other members, particularly those who are coming to us looking for information and help -- some of whom may not have the time or energy to wade through a hundred posts per day of OT conversation. We owe it to them to do better than that. I look forward to joining in on the OT list, while seeing the Silver List return to a (somewhat) narrower focus and greater self discipline. Thank you, everyone, for your cooperation and patience. If anyone has questions that have not yet been answered, please let us know what you still need.
