This is not cancer per se; it is an auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the tissues of - in this case - the anus. Infection builds and the body sends out 'tunnels' for the pus to run out of. These are the fistulas. it is a horrible painful disease and has to be treated really carefully. Some of the treatments are IMO too harsh i.e.Cyclosporin which acts like chemotherapy which kills the entire immune system. I didn't wish to go down this route hence my question. dee
