Hi Victoria,

Not all folks use 14 ga. wire.  We supply 1/4" wide strips as electrodes and
I feel they are better because there's more surface area for the silver to
be sintered off.  It's about 2 1/2 times the area as 14 ga. wire.

We suggest about 2 1/2" spacing and wetted depth of 3 ".

I'm afraid there is no "standard".  I suspect 14 ga. wire got to be most
commonly used because that's what is most commonly available.  That doesn't
necessarily make it the best one to use.
