If it was me, I'd try methylene blue and DMSO. I posted in the past on
Alzheimer's and methylene blue is an OTC supplement that can be of
benefit. But is an excellent memory booster in general.

But it has also been
shown to increase mental activity and reduce mental tiredness. Studies
have
shown it to be effective for memory improvement even at low doses. Here
is one study:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14724055
Methylene blue improves brain oxidative metabolism and memory retention
in rats.

" Methylene blue (MB) increases mitochondrial oxygen consumption and
restores memory retention in rats metabolically impaired by inhibition
of cytochrome c oxidase. This study tested two related hypotheses using
biochemical and behavioral techniques: (1) that low-level MB would
enhance brain cytochrome c oxidation, as tested in vitro in brain
homogenates and after in vivo administration to rats and (2) that
corresponding low-dose MB would enhance spatial memory retention in
normal rats, as tested 24 h after rats were trained in a baited
holeboard maze for 5 days with daily MB posttraining injections. The
biochemical in vitro studies showed an increased rate of brain
cytochrome c oxidation with the low but not the high MB concentrations
tested. The in vivo administration studies showed that the corresponding
MB low dose (1 mg/kg) increased brain cytochrome c oxidation 24 h after
intraperitoneal injection, but not after 1 or 2 h postinjection. In the
behavioral studies, spatial memory retention in probe trials (percentage
of visits to training-baited holes compared to total visits) was
significantly better for MB-treated than saline control groups (66% vs.
31%). Together the findings suggest that low-dose MB enhances spatial
memory retention in normal rats by increasing brain cytochrome c oxidase
activity."

And:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC523083/pdf/0110633.pdf
Extinction Memory Improvement by the Metabolic Enhancer Methylene Blue

" We investigated whether postextinction administration of methylene
blue (MB) could enhance retention of an
extinguished conditioned response. MB is a redox compound that at low
doses elevates cytochrome oxidase activity,
thereby improving brain energy production. Saline or MB (4 mg/kg
intraperitoneally) were administered to rats for
5 d following extinction training of tone-footshock conditioning.
Postextinction freezing was lower in rats receiving
MB compared with saline, suggesting that MB improved retention of the
extinction memory. The MB effect was
specific to tone-evoked freezing because there were no differences in
pretone freezing. Control subjects similarly
injected with MB showed no evidence of nonspecific effects on measures
of motor activity and fearfulness.
MB-treated rats exhibited both greater retention of extinction and
greater overall brain metabolic activity. Rats with
higher retention of extinction also showed a relative increase in
cytochrome oxidase activity in prefrontal cortical
regions, especially anterior infralimbic cortex, dorsal and medial
frontal cortex, and lateral orbital cortex. These
regional metabolic increases were also correlated to the behavioral
freezing index used to assess retention of
extinction. It was concluded that MB administered postextinction could
enhance retention of extinction memory
through an increase in brain cytochrome oxidase activity."
" Therefore, it is not the case that MB preferentially affects the
activity of only brain regions engaged in acquisition or extinction.
Which regions are more affected would seem to depend on which regions
have more metabolic energy demand during the period when MB is
administered."

Methylene blue is available at fish and aquarium shops. It is sold as a
fish fungal treatment. It is usually available in concentrations of 1%
or 2.3% methylene blue. Novalek Methylene Blue and Kordon Methylene
BlueCheck are two commonly found sourcess. Be sure the methylene blue
treatment does not contain zinc. Dilute the methylene blue to 0.1% and
have him take two to three drops in the morning and in the evening. I
take it myself as a preventative and mental energy enhancer. The dosage I
recommend is derived from a study done by researchers at Children's
Hospital & Research Center Oakland:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/08/080818101335.htm
Potential Alzheimer's, Parkinson's Cure Found In Century-Old Drug

And from other sources. A company is trying to patent methylene blue as
an Alzheimer's drug and their testing uses much larger doses, 65 mg
three times daily:

The other supplement I would try is DMSO. It appears to also increase
oxygen metabolism in the brain. Here is a testimonial:

Hi, just looking at the web sites. And...ran across your great site.

I have dmso...and use for blood infection, yukky feelings...and yes its
great and fantastic with hydrogen peroxide.

Ok the question is:
My mother is here and sent to me via Dad due to the fact he can't handle
her memory loss and confusion anymore. I'm the health nut...smile of the
family and taking her in for 3 weeks. Its a struggle ...she had a sudden
blood clot 911 scene about 3 yrs....clot in arm...so large the arm
exploded! Skin ripped open like paper tearing...and a clot in the gut as
large as a melon...and the heart went haywire...ended in a pace
maker...and in the brain a black spot was found...

Ok, I did an experiment...Gave my mom some liquid dmso in juice...half
tsp. and within an hour...a new woman!...She could have conversation,
laugh, be alert. not exhausted, stopped yawning nonstop...the look of
senile confusion left. Yes, some cognitive tasts still rough...the dmso
wore off....and then back to the fatigued, yawning and disorientated
person...not remember a hoot...short term memory...goes!

So, I gave some more dmso...maybe a whole tsp....and within an hour she
came alive...again...and could use the bathroom, dress her self, old
conversation have energy....Oxygen must be getting to her
brain!!!!!!!!!! Praise God.

She is only a beautiful...69...this blood cloot ordeal happened...3
years ago.

If you could see her...she is so pretty...and her love for life and
thankfulnes just comes alive after dmso.

Please help me....am I right for thinking this...oxygen got thru to her
brain! Will this continue to help her and even heal up the damage..mmm.

The dr. hear heard this story and wanted me to immediately put on a
hyperbaric treatment program.
Then chelation...mouth is full of silver and gold teeth...

I hope you can help me asp. I only have my mom for one more week...I
will for sure send her home with dmso...or have Dad order from you? And
is this legal in Mich. and I'm in Oklahoma where its legal...I love it
personally.

Sincerely,
Debbie

Re: my Mom and memory dmso

Debbie,
Wow! What a wonderful testimony. It definitely makes sense in that the
DMSO transports oxygen in the blood where her hemoglobin apparently
isn't. She must be anemic. Read my web page on anemia:
www.krysalis.net/anemia.htm

You need to correct the anemia and then the DMSO won't be needed so
often. As described (the way I do it for myself), get a glass eyedropper
bottle (2oz). Add (about) 10 B12, 10 folic acid and 4 multiple vitamin
tablets. Fill with DMSO & shake periodically. Takes about 3 days for
pills to fall apart. Let sludge settle and apply eyedropper load of
clear liquid to insensitive skin. I use the outside of my forearm. It
will absorb through the skin and within about one hour she will feel
wonderful. You may want to use it every day for a few days but then once
a week or once a month. You will soon notice that the up feelings will
start to last much longer than when DMSO alone is used. This works
because B12 and folic acid are required for the body to synthesize
hemoglobin and her intestine is not absorbing them properly.

Please give me permission to add your email, with or without your name
as you wish (if you want it protected) to my DMSO web page. It is too
perfect an illustration to not share with others.

What a wonderful letter. Thank you for writing. I have my Mom in bed
next to me at the computer...in our office. She had a wonderful day
...on DMSO. Yes, I really think she is B 12 deficiant...One day I gave
her a bunch of b 12 and the DMSO together...and it was wonderful. Yes,
it does wear off and I was so concerned about the wear off. My Mom and I
are so happy now after reading your e mail tonight. It was so such a
blessings. Our whole family is pulling for her here at my house. We love
her so much. Yes, you may use my e mail to you for the website but
please correct the spelling and such due to my hurriedness...at my
husband's office.

I am amazed...I prayed and we stood on the fact that God wants her
well...and we have made the decision to fight!...Suddenly the
DMSO...idea came to me and the rest is history...that brown bottle in
the cupbd. was a miracle to my mother.

I will go to you anemia website now and read to my Mother. She is so
happy that you wrote back and it gives such hope. This may be the
answer...and not chelation?

Or...??? We will give the DMSO and B vit theory a real GO! I will stay
in touch with you and hopefully...in a few days ..I will sit Mom down
and let her write to you herself.
More later and may God richly bless you!!!!!!!!

Thank you.

I have so much to tell. Mom has been doing fantastic! She flew home and
Dad was amazed at how well she was doing!
I have a ton to tell.
I will call you , Ok?...This is all so amazing.
Do you have other testimonials?
I have added this mineral...Germanium. Look up dmso/germanium regarding
dementia/alz.
I mean it...my Mom's life has turned around.
Dad was even checking out alz. homes for Mom while she was staying here
with me.
I'm in Ok and they are in Mich.
More later.

I will just have to talk with you. God is so good.
Bless you and have a wonderful weekend...YaHoo!!!!!!

Sincerely,
Debbie"

My brother is in trouble. On Father's Day, he wanted to call my Dad and
wish him a happy day -- my Dad died in 1996. Recently, he (brother) was
on his way to a location very near where he lives -- and ended up in a
town four towns away. On Tuesday night of this week, he called my Mom
and asked her "Mom, is my Dad dead? When did he die?" So he is having
serious memory issues, both recent and distant memory is involved.

Of course, he's seeing doctors and being tested, and they don't know
what's going on with him. He's been tested for Alzheimers, and they
tell him he doesn't have it. The doctors also tell him that this is not
seizure-related -- my brother is an epileptic, and his seizures are
controlled by medication. He's had brain scans and MRI's and no
abnormalities are found. They did find a small, non-malignant tumor on
the brain, behind his left ear, but told him that is not
life-threatening and is not involved in the memory issues.

So -- does anyone have any ideas about what could be going on with him?
Any help will be appreciated.
