There's been talk lately about CS decreasing the friendly flora in dogs by 75%. But can we really make a direct comparison between the canine digestive system and humans? I know that some animals digestive system can be radically different from ours such as in ruminants. I would imagine that humans would be more similar to canines that the ruminants but wouldn't there be enough differences that the comparison would not hold up exactly?
I've heard that the dogs stomach produces much stronger and/or more acid than humans which is why they can gulp their food down with impunity. I believe their stomach is geared to do an awful lot of work! I know nothing about a canine's digestive flora or the length of their intestines. Do they also have a small and large intestine like we do? Of the same relative length? I'm just trying to determine whether we should jump to conclusions comparing the dog's results with ours.
