  I have good success with about a cup of white vinegar to a full tank of 
water. Remove top and plug in, outdoors, unless you want your house to smell 
like a pickle. Check on it periodically, and after about an hour, things should 
be dissolved. Brush away the mineral deposits and rinse carefully.
