 Hi Carmen,
Don`t have the message, try the archive.

Colitis covers a lot of ground. It means *inflamation of the bowel*.
 That could be any of the following;
         Crohn`s disease
         Ulcerative Colitis
         Hemorrhagic Colitis
         Toxic Colitis
         Antibiotic-Associated Colitis
         Mucous Colitis
As you would expect, Antibiotic-Associated Colitis is very common due
to the over use of antibiotics which kills off the normal flora of the
bowl and upsets the balance in the bowel. It ranges from mild diarrhea
to severe colitis marked by exudative mucosal plaques (pseudomembranous
colitis). It is treated by stopping the antibiotic. Takes 10 to 12 days
to recover. Repopulation of flora helps. Other treatments are available
in severe cases.
Toxic Colitis is always considered a grave emergency.
Ulcerative Colitis can develope into Toxic colitis very easily and
needs careful and competent medical care. About 1/3 of cases require
surgery.
If you contemplate using CS for intestinal infections, do so with small
dosage and slowly work up , being very observant of any diarrea, a sign
to stop.
Unfortunatly some folks will be taking CS for other conditions and
don`t correlate the onset of diarrea as a sign to stop taking the CS or
any antibiotic, and let the system recover. This may be thought of as a
form of Herx reaction also.

   Bless you Bob Lee
