The term " hydrocephalus " , in medicine, is defined as any
condition
in which there is enlargement of the ventricular system as a result of
imbalance
between production and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid [CSF]. The
child 's
head enlarges in order to accommodate the excessive volume of
cerebrospinal
fluid secreted. Progressive hydrocephalus is associated with raised
intracranial pressure giving rise
to neurological manifestations. The increasing enlargement should be
assessed
by regular measurements of the cranial circumference. Sometimes, the
pressure
may be normal or nearly so. You merely mentioned that the child was
premature
but did not mention whether the child sustained any trauma during
delivery or
genetic history.
Hydrocephalus, sometimes can obstruct the course of labour. The
appearance and
size of the head are related more to the age of onset of the
hydrocephalus than
to its cause. In the majority of cases, hydrocephalus mainfests after
birth.
However, it has been reported that
nearly 40 percent of all hydrocephalic cases in infancy resolve
spontaneously

Nothing is known about his medical /surgical history and
radiological, ultrasound or CT scan findings. Personally, I would like
to find out whether the hydrocephalus is the communicating type or the
non-communicating type. This differentiation is important in relation to
surgical management.

                 < should this be a concern ?>

It is a concern of utmost importance with vast psychological
repercussions. A hydrocephalic child can bring about intrapersonal and
interpersonal stress to the family involving parents and siblings. In
fact, the
society of which he or she is a member is also affected. You may
