I'm presently coming through a bout of shingles, am 67 years old, a
Lymie,(compromised immune system stressed by GB attack).
Yes, the neuralgia is the scary part. It's beginning to fade somewhat, so I'm
hopeful that all the measures I took did work to spare permanent damage to
nerves, but this was truly the worst hell I could ever have imagined enduring.
I immediately began drinking a lot of good colloidal silver to squelch the
virus. I sprayed the rash with high proof alcohol (vodka mixed with distilled
water, Listerine, or Hydrogen peroxide, depending on what felt good. Took lots
of extra L-Lysine, and arabinogalactin, tried licorice extract on rash which
usually helps but in my case felt worse, avoided legumes because arginine in
them feed the herpes zoster. Vitamin E, B6 and niacin are also recommended.
Epsom salt or mag-flakes baths are very soothing, for a while.
'Two Old Goats' lotion is a wonderful herbal creme that's really helping (it's
recommended for fibromyalgia, and seems to temporarily help post-herptic
neuralgia) I'm taking vicodin at night to get sleep because rest is SO
important, and basically using heat and cold during the day with lots of rest
when the muscles start to spasm up. Somewhere in the course of things I was
taking O of O and than lost track and forgot (pain really saps the brain)
Protein is important to help the body rebuild, and rest, rest, rest. The pain
will make you do that anyway. Best of luck. This ain't for sissies.

Be well,
Léna
