Baking POWDER is made with Baking SODA and often has another ingredient added to it so it can also rise in the presence of heat, and that ingredient may be an aluminum compound. Yes, you mix 1 part baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) and 2 parts cream of tartar and use that mix the same as baking powder.---Lois
