Haven't thought to use hot in it, but the grain blade is supposed to pulverize ice well. Also, after a year of daily use, my regular blade head got wobbly in its spindle. I called Bed Bath & Beyond where I'd purchased it, to replace that part, and they said they can't do that, just parts, but to bring the whole thing in and they'd replace it! Nice.
