Thanks sol! That's probably a good reminder. I had thought of using honey years ago, but a little knowledge gained via a Google quickly squashed that idea.
Regarding ratio, anywhere from 1:1 to 5:1 water to white sugar works well. If you have a lot of hummers and have to refill daily or more, a sweeter solution will reduce their feeding (as it's the sucrose that's feeding them, not the water).
