I make mine with distilled water and three 9-volt batteries, and it takes about 50 minutes. A laser light shone through the water before it's "cooked" doesn't show up, but after the 50 minutes, there is a light red line that tells me it's done. Like someone said, with only one battery, it will probably take longer. It is best to use distilled water, too, if possible.
