Much has been written lately about indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux etc.
In almost every case, this can be alleviated by the use of hydrochloric
acid taken just before meals. We have all been sold a bill of goods for
years by the same people that have always sold us a bill of goods, namely
the pharmaceutical companies and the medical establishment. They've led us
to believe that it is common to produce too much stomach acid and they're
the ones to fix it for us.

When your stomach produces insufficient hydrochloric acid the food sits in
there and ferments. That's what you're burping up and refluxing -
fermentation. The best way to see if you're short on stomach acid is to buy
yourself a bottle (they're easy to find, sometimes referred to as "betaine
hydrochloride") and start out taking one pill before, for instance, supper.
The next day, take two. Increase by one pill each time until you notice a
warm feeling in your tummy. Then back off by one pill. That will be your
own personal dosage.

Do the same thing with your other meals which may be smaller so the number
of pills you take would be proportionately less. Don't be concerned if you
wind up having to take as many as 6 pills for a large meal. Most of you
sufferers will notice a distinct improvement in your digestion. It is very
common to produce less stomach acid as you get older. The biggest reason
for the existence of ulcers is a reduction of stomach acid, as the bacteria
that cause ulcers cannot live in an acid environment. If you have ulcers,
you may be making the problem worse by the use of antacids. I also wouldn't
advise taking CS for indigestion. If it helps, it's only treating symptoms
and not the cause of the heartburn, reflux, etc.

I agree with Brooks Bradley that it helps to take digestive enzymes. But
the proper amount of acid is essential. Some of the enzymes have
hydrochloric acid in them but it isn't usually enough. Best to take the
acid pills separately.

Another good way to improve digestion by the use of acid is to drink apple
cider vinegar before meals. Best mixed with honey :-)
