Ninah and SilverListers, I tried 16 years ago to put CS in a HUMIDIFIER without success. The CS does not float/aerate into the air). Also tried a VICKS hot steam humidifer, where the water/CS container/pot (has a non stick coating similar to a frypan) that holds/cooks the water/steam. The boiling water/steam rises. The silver particles stay in the the pot. After some time you can feel the very fine silver particles in the pot with your finger. The longer you cook the more slver build-up in/on the non-stick inside surface -- and "so much for "nano sized" silver particles" !!
METOD ONE: The ultrasonic humidifiers (I've used a few different models and makes over the years), and one can breathe in the "aerated white cold steam". Silver does build up on the vibrating metal disk/pad, usually about 20mm in dia. This is not immediately a problem and one can use the device daily many times for a week. One then cleans the disk/pad with a somewhat stiff small brush -- and adds more CS. In fact my best cleaning method is a piece of VELCRO, the prickly half of the duo !! This weekly cleaning does dictate one does NOT fill the ultrasonic humidifier's reservoir anywhere FULL. Cover the ultrasonic disk/pad with maybe 1" or 25 -- 30mm of CS -- thus your weekly cleaning won't waste CS. I've now been using this method for years. METHOD TWO: OMRON has a NEW and fabulous Ultrasonic travel unit, battery model. Very small and compact. This design is easy to clean without Velcro/brush etc. We used their first travel unit purchased in '99 for some 14 years (was twice the size of the new model). However, the ultrasonic mechanism of the humidifier is a metaldisc. (I don’t know what type of metal it is.) I was wondering if the metalmight cause the silver to plate out into particulates, or affect it adverselyin some other way. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.
