I found the concept of using hydrogen peroxide in the ears to shorten
colds and flu a fascinating one. I've never heard of it being used for
that. My family has used H2O2 in the ears to clean out earwax for many
years. My father in particular has a problem with excessive wax buildup.
He uses it the most regularly, with good results. Generally it helps to
warm the H2O2 before putting it in the ear. Just leave it in for 20-30
minutes, or until the bubbling stops. We use ordinary drugstore/grocery
store peroxide with no ill effects ever seen. I just tried it a little
while ago, in both ears. The right ear had some wax that was dissolved,
after a 20 minute "soak". The bubbling was still going on after 20
minutes but I was tired of lying there on my side on the floor. The left
ear had no dissolved wax, also after 20 minutes. If you've never had the
wax cleaned from your ears, you might be in for a pleasant surprise if
you try the peroxide "cleanse". I've known folks to report noticeable
improvement in hearing after cleaning the wax out. You would not notice
a very gradual loss of hearing due to slow wax buildup.
Who knows if use of peroxide can reduce colds or flu, but it's sure a
simple, painless, harmless technique to try, and cheap to boot.
Let us all know if it works for you!
