One option might be something that sounds scary but isn't:  'blood
electrification.'  I've long since forgotten the details but others here
might know how to go about this or perhaps in the archives.  Years ago a
fried of mine had a terrible tooth ache and was afraid the dentist would
pull it.  I showed him how to run a tiny current across the infected area
every 20 minutes, if I remember correctly.  After doing this for two days
the toothache was gone.
