I dug out my old Hanna silver ion meter. It measures ionic silver, so as such was not much more valuable than doing a conductivity test. However I now realize all I needed to do is digest the colloidal silver to be able to measure total silver content. I was wondering what is recommended for doing this. There are a number of choices, nitric and sulfuric acid and ammonia are several that can do this, but they are pretty nasty. The Hach procedure involved both sulfuric and nitric acid, boiling dry, refluxing, then neutralizing. It required a fume hood and about an hour to complete. It seems that there should be a simpler, safer and quicker method for colloid, like using citric or acetic acid, then neutralizing with baking soda or something.

Thanks,

Marshall

    need an
exact measurement of the total silver, but a percentage of colloid vs
    ionic would also be nice.
