Sharon I get this black smudge or patch on the bottom of the jar too. It comes from the cathode (-) wire. I notice that if the solution is left overnight or longer, most of it disappears. I just wipe off the rest with a paper towel when I transfer the solution. Never got around to asking Ivan about it. wong
