Diane,
It is Gastro Esophasgus Reflux Disease which causes a severe pain in the
chest especially when lying in prone position. Don't know much about it,
but it can be caused by many things, including hernia, stomach acid, like
very advanced heartburn. I have had heartburn once or twice in my life and
can't imagine having that pain everynight a few hours after falling asleep,
then having to sit up the rest of the night to ease the pain. Apparently
something about lying down makes the pain worse. Thankfully when my husband
stopped eating all wheat products he was finally able to sleep without pain,
but it took several years to find this out. If anyone has an undiagnosable
problem I recommend you find a kinesiologist, it is the weirdest thing in
the world, but it works! It not only tells the doctor what the problem is,
but what the appropriate medication is and the amount needed.
It makes the unexplainable much more believable.
