A most interesting post, David!
You ask of a mention of honey and CS ointment... I repost a message from
Brooks Bradley.

" To all interested list members.
This morning an interesting report came
across my desk. One of our laboratory technicians has been evaluating a
number of various compounds (commercial, folk remedies, state-of-the-art
chemicals, etc.). He has completed his evaluations. Briefly: The
static evaluations were based upon the effectivity of each substance on
bacteria-containing cultures in petrie-dish environments. Equivalent
volumes/strengths (in solution form) were applied to a variety of
pathogenic and common anaerobic bacteria. Ten of the thirty substances
evaluated were acceptably effective; but one compound was an
order-of-magnitude more effective than any other....single
compound/substance. This---most effective---compound was composed of
(by volume)
60% raw, unheated, honey; 30% 10ppm Colloidal Silver; 10% fresh aloe
vera extract. The parent stock was thoroughly mixed and kept in the
freezer for storage....needed portions being removed and thawed to
room-temperature and re-blended before use.
No claims for efficacy.....for any medical
condition are being made. We are a research facility only, and this,
particular, evaluation did not entail "exact-duplicate" conditions such
as temperature gradient, light control, sample re-generation, etc. As
an ad hoc effort, this was an off-stream evaluation, not connected to
our more formal endeavors. Nevertheless, I found it of interest----and
thought it might be also.....for some of you.
Sincerely. Brooks Bradley.
p.s. When 2% (by volume) water-soluble vitamin E was added, this
mixture proved to be the most efficacious topical burn-treatment we
have ever employed. Nothing, ever evaluated, approached this
compound----for scar-tissue suppression in burn insult evaluations."
