Hi Frank,

I don't know what the other folks came up with on the URL but what I got was an error message. Could you tell us what the jist of the site was about?

If you could go there again, could you get a URL that has http://__________ instead of numbers?

Thanks.

Hi Trem,

Frank isn't on the CS list but here is a pretty good response I received from a couple of individuals and my reply.

Harvey, I just went to that url you sent and checked it out, the most I got
out of it was that it was a government office, so I put the url into Neo
Trace and came up with it being the beuro of the censes. Here is the
street address I got from that trace and name if you want it to write to
them and you are sure right about it being dirty pool and needs to be told
about to all.

Network Bureau of Census
4700 Silver Hill Rd.
Suitland, MD, 20746

The program I used taces it by nodes and points on a world map, if you want
something like this let me know, it along with AtGuard has kept people out
of my machine since I put them on. Have turned over to my isp several
places that are trying to probe computers and even sent notes to big
companies that some one in their offices have been hacking, and a couple of
them have came back to me for more info and have gotten rid of the ones
responsible Both programs are small if you want them guys.

Jay, here is some correspondence from an email list I am on:

Hi Harv, Just what is a firewall and how can it help you. I did go to the URL
and then I thought about the cookies that the government wanted to put out.
Is there a way to stop this?
Linda

Un-knowingly to computer users, different organizations (hackers, businesses, gov, etc.) will try to get into your computer while you are connected to the internet to find any information that may benefit them. A firewall will stop this. A firewall blocks these incoming accesses to your computer and will let you know when it is happening so that you can put a stop to it. This is a absolute invasion of privacy. There are a few organizations trying to put a stop to it. I have seen on TV where some of the really good hackers can bust through a firewall but they normally wouldnt be bothering with small potatoes.

Zone Alarm is reputed to be one of the better firewalls and it is freeware. Download it at: http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=0015P7 I am switching to it to give it a try

Another excellent program deletes all spyware dll's that various software companies install in your computer with their software. I just deleted 24 spyware DLL's. It is called OptOut, it is freeware and can be downloaded from: http://grc.com/oo-update.htm . Whether you download it or not, it is a good idea to go to the site and see what it has to say.

Neo Trace is available at:
http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=000MIV

AtGuard is at: http://www8.zdnet.com/products/stories/reviews/0,4161,410455,00.html

If JR from the old y2k homestead list was still around, I'm sure he would have a lot to say about this.

Harvey
