Of course there's a problem with silver nitrate!! That's certainly not pure, elemental silver. Silver nitrate is used extensively in the photo chemical industry (probably the largest single user of silver), was used a lot (perhaps still used?) as an antibacterial for the eyes of newborns, and was most likely the substance used by the infamous argyria victim in the 50's. It has nothing in common with the making and use of colloidal silver -- except that it contains silver. You're trying to say Chlorine gas (Cl) or Sodium (Na) are dangerous (they are!!) -- so don't use Salt (NaCl). -- Dean -- from (almost) Duh Moines (CDP, KB0ZDF) -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
