I think the key here is the liver. It dumps into the colon. Here is my guess. CS contains a broad range of sizes from monoatomic, to clusters of 100 or more atoms. The atomic (and maybe small clusters) are quickly removed by the kidneys, and the larger clusters are removed much more slowly by the liver. Or maybe vice versa.
