It's always important to have the "skin factor set to thick" for any discussion in this medium. It takes a great deal of skill and effort to communicate effectively *and* avoid offense or the *appearance* of rudeness, given that there are few ways to transmit nuance, body language, or inflection in written prose. So, take it easy. I'm sure Roger and Ivan are doing what they do best -- learning from others. Please, don't anyone else get scared off by the technical nature of their discussion, *or* the occasionally bristly tone of the prose. Also, it's *always* a good idea to be fully caught up with the thread you're commenting on before hitting "send." That way you'll not be caught "piling on" something that's already been fully resolved a few posts later on. I compose my replies as I read, then hold them in the background until I've finished the rest of the messages in my inbox. If my messages still offer something useful I will then send them along.
