Thanks for answering Tim's questions, everyone. There are *always* 
basic questions begging to be answered. Don't anyone ever hesitate to 
jump in and ask them, please!

Don't the medical equipment designers go to *great* lengths to keep
their patients from even the slightest possibility of contacting the
mains? I'm wondering if it is a bad idea to connect yourself up to a
device where line isolation is dependant on a cheaply made piece of
hardware from Radio Shack? <shudder>

I thought this is why battery equipment is so much easier to 
develop for body-contact applications?

Just what are the risks?
