To all interested list members:
We are nearing completion/evaluation of a
"locally-constructed" hyperbaric chamber that uses air compression for
inflation and supplemental oxygen for inhalation. We are quite
enthusiastic about the effectiveness of the simple design----and most
especially over the VERY economical cost of materials and ease of
assembly. It will be about 3 weeks before our proto-type evaluations
are complete. If no unforseen problems surface, I am willing to post a
useable set of instructions for interested members----if any are
desirous of constructing a very low-cost unit.
We purchased, and modified slightly, a PAC altitude
chamber and have achieved very acceptable results from it. However, it
cost $1000.00, plus shipping (it was the most economical of all devices
we considered); and that is more than the average person might want to
have to pay. The total parts cost for everything, including the air
pressure relief valving, support cage, covering, entry/exit zipper
assembly, 02 assembly (excepting air and 02 supply source), base
assembly and miscellaneous hardware----was less than $150.00. The unit
is 4' in diameter and 6' 4" in height and allows a person to sit in a
conventional chair.
We are developing this unit for construction/use by
third-world recipients. We feel we can ship the unassembled materials
for a fraction of the cost of other approaches. If no unforseen
deficiencies materialize, we estimate we can ship 5 unassembled units to
Asia/Africa for the same cost as one purchased (portable) commercial
unit.
There are many approaches to be examined for this type
of "baseline" unit; we have settled on this design because of its
unusually low cost, effectiveness and practicality.
Naturally, I am always thinking of my friends on this
list---some enterprising soul may wat to do it. The construction really
is.......quite simple.
Sincerely, Brooks Bradley.
