Sorry to hear about your accident.

Just wanted to let you and the other listers know that SALT has a wonderful
styptic effect -- meaning it shrinks and contracts blood  vessels and the
surrounding tissue, which is how it stops bleeding. I used salt when I cut
my finger really badly with a knife -- the cut was almost to the bone and
others were sure that I'd need stitches -- but I was determined that it
wouldn't, and it didn't.

I'm sure that the use of salt is limited if the wound is too deep, but I
wanted to bring up the styptic properties of salt for general information.
