Dear Kathy,

Tinnitus that goes with hearing loss is different than mine I think. I have
had several hearing tests administered by ear specialists, where I go in a
sound booth and all that. And they determined that I have the "hearing of
a 5-year-old" I can almost hear in ranges that only dogs can hear in.
Tinnitus based on my research on it has more than one cause. Nerve damage
leading to deafness is one. Ear wax, infections, allergies, and even
pinched nerves in the neck. I have that as some of my cause as I have a
lot of neck problems and sometimes the ringing in my ears will get suddenly
and irritatingly louder if I turn my head just so and feel a strain on the
spine in that area. Relaxing the neck muscles and meditating for a minute
will usually get it to go back down to the "normal" volume.

If you have hearing loss, you might have all manner of junk in the ear. I
went to an "ear-candling" demonstration about 5 years ago and I was amazed
at the amount of crap those ear candles can suck out of the human ear. You
would not believe the things that can hide in someone ear for years.
Hairs, and little dark gooey specks of who knows what. Sometimes looks
like the droppings from the inside of a vacuum cleaner. Check into
ear-candling.
