Hi All, The question of vaccines has been on (and off) my mind for some time.
I've generally been in favor of vaccinations, because the statistics seemed to indicate they helped people, overall. That is, children (and adults) did die because of the vaccines, but more children (and adults) died when the vaccine wasn't used. IOW, fewer people died, overall, with the vaccines. Now I'm reading reports of the supposed side-effects of these vaccines to the overall population. I know the allegations, and there could be a link. However, I've seen no mention of how many people who have the side-effects would have succumbed to a disease. Also, I haven't been able to factor out other possible contributors to the side-effects, such as poor nutrition, etc. Here's why I'm still on the fence about vaccines -- and some "drugs." When I was a kid, there was a polio epidemic. The only time I've seen the Minneapolis schools close was for this epidemic (blizzards and temps of -30 didn't close the schools). Several of my friends died or were severely paralyzed for life due to polio. The polio vaccines (of all types) may have bad side-effects -- BUT NONE OF THEM WERE AS BAD AS THE VIRUS. Yes, there could be other methods of halting polio, but none were known at the time (or now, unless the Zapper or CS would work). Although I have no personal experience, the stories told about TB, rheumatic fever and smallpox are similar. When I was in high school, two of my friends died from epilepsy -- one while we watched (in geometry class -- I'll never forget it). My son has mild epilepsy, and takes a drug (I've forgotten which one) to help control the condition. I know of no natural remedy. I'm not defending the use of vaccines on infants, but for older children and adults, I suspect the side-effects are not worse than the diseases for the general population. (I also question the use of vaccines for chicken pox, measles and other minor diseases.)
