Hi all, This is an all too common experience on mailing lists these days. In an effort to shield them from "technical" details, vendors like Microsoft have partially crippled their users' efforts. *EVERY* message from the list includes the e-mail address of the person who sent it. Why can't you find it? Because your e-mail software hides it from you! If you're using Microsoft Outlook Express, highlight the message in the mailbox window by clicking once on it with the *right* mouse button, and you'll get a flyout menu at the mouse pointer. Select Properties from that menu, and you'll get a two-tabbed dialog box with General and Details tabs. The General tab already will show the sender address, though the text is not "live" and doesn't let you copy it with your mouse. The Details tab presents you with the message headers in all their glorious ugliness. If you scan through them, however, you'll notice one line that looks something like... > From: "Joe Blow" <[email protected]> Guess what? This is the address! *And* you can highlight it with your mouse, right click on the highlighted text, and select copy from the little flyout menu that comes up at the mouse pointer. Now, you've got the address in the "clipboard," ready to paste into the To: or Address: field of a *new* message. Another way to do this is double click on the message to open it in its own window. Then right click on the name in the From: field above the text area of the window. Select Properties from the flyout menu and you'll get a multi-tabbed dialog box. The Summary tab shows you the user's e-mail address. Again, select the text, right click on it, and select Copy. Now you can paste it into another message. *TOTAL CONTROL!!!* Cool, huh? Try it, just for fun! Other programs work differently, I'm sure, but a lot of folks are using Outlook, so it will help some of you. If anyone would like to chime in with similar instructions for other systems, please do. Using mailing lists can be very easy or quite frustrating. Mastering a few tricks like these makes all the difference.
