He calls silver a heavy metal, when in fact it is a transition metal, same as copper which is considered an essential mineral by the FDA. He is using guilt by association, even thought the association does not exist. Calling it a heavy metal already shows he has not researched it. If what he says is true then why are they keeping it a secret? I have never heard of any studies that even hint at the things he is saying. If there were studies, then he should be able to direct you to them so we can all review them. I cannot believe the FDA and other sites attempting to abolish CS would not mention this if it were true. If he cannot produce any studies then I believe he is likely blowing smoke. Update: I have found two references that may concern this. Johansson E. Selenium and its protection against the effect of mercury and silver. J Trace Elem Electrolytes Health Dis 5:273-274 (1991). Ridlington JW, Whanger PD. Interactions of selenium and antioxidants with mercury, cadmium and silver. Fundam Appl Toxicol 1:368-375 (1981). If anyone has access to a research library that may have these papers, it would be good to see what they say. I suspect they concern silver compounds, which we all know is a horse of another color. Since glutathione peroxidase is the component in blood that disassociates hydrogen peroxide, this should be very easy for us to test. If you add a small amount of it or anything containing it such as blood to H2O2, oxygen will be released instantly. So if CS does actually inhibit this, then the release of the oxygen should be inhibited. I will give this a try when I get a chance. However, since I am not one for poking holes in myself, I will have to get some blood from a steak, or purchase some glutathione peroxidase from the health food store. Marshall >>
Marshall: I think it's very important not to jump to any conclusions on either side of the argument. This doctor's reference (or lack thereof) is the first I've heard of any potential long term effects of ingesting silver in one form or another. The first step, as you point out, is to read and discuss any available research. In the meantime, let us be clear that the long term effects of ingesting CS are unknown. Secondly, if Ivan is correct in his assertion that silver ION is the only form of silver that can be incorporated into body cells, then it makes no difference if one started with CS or silver nitrate with regard to silver's the long term effects on the body. I, for one, would like to hear from other experts, such as Brooks Bradley, with regard to Ivan's theory and any other factual information he could bring to the table.
