Go to a garden supply store and buy some diatomaceous earth. It's a
fine, dry power which you dust into the fur. Also, dust it on rugs,
furniture, etc. if the dog's been inside. Leave it for two days or so
(you can vaccum the floor, too -- the spider mite population will be
greatly reduced). The number of fleas should be cut down to just
about nothing.

Diatomaceous earth is harmless to the dog (and people), and is used
commercially to keep bugs out of grain, dust flowers and vegetables to
stop bugs, and is even put into flour (on purpose) to keep bugs from
surviving. It's non-harmful for animals to eat (including people).
It's not a poison.

However, the hair loss and sores on the dog imply something more than
fleas. The dog could have a bacterial or fungus infection. For that,
bathe the dog in colloidal silver -- after the treatment with
diatomaceous earth. They spray CS on the sores once or twice daily.
