I watched Man on the Moon a couple of days ago. Andy goes to the Phillipines for the psychic surgery. In the movie they show them using hidden cattle entrails in their hands to make it look like they are actually going inside the person to pull out the cancer. My wife remarked how terriable it was to be giving these poor people false hope using a gimmick like that. Although I do not approve of such action, I did note that many many people were healed by these people. Were they fakes, or were they really doing psychic healing, and adding the blood and guts to make it more believable, or strictly using the blood and guts to trigger the patients faith in self healing. I am not sure we will ever know, but the placebo effect I am sure was very important to their cure, otherwise why would they do it, risking getting caught, which they did.
