Hello all!! I hope you have been blessed through this holiday season. I am jotting a line to keep you posted on how my daughter is doing. I have been getting alot of requests at my personal email...............inquiring about her health, and any discoveries I had in regard to an interaction with the CS that I was using to treat her. So...........I'm letting you know "en mass" how she is doing and what I've discovered.
As far as interactions go, I did find what the cause was for her severe itching. And it was, in part, the CS. Let me explain................due to her kidney transplant, she is required to drink 60 ounces of water per day. Because she is so young, she doesn't consume all of that by mouth.............we hydrate her through a nasal gastric feeding tube when she sleeps. She also needs some supplementation of sodium to keep her electrolytes in balance......we do this by simply adding 1/4 tsp. of table salt into her feeding bag (water) at night. You may see where I am going with this................it's so obvious to me now, and I can't believe that I didn't think of it immediately when she began to have an adverse reaction. Anyway, I was giving her CS in the morning, and again in the evening.........just before putting her on her feeding pump. So, in essence, I was mixing her CS with a high concentration of salt, and it was causing this severe reaction. As soon as I realized what I was doing, I stopped giving her CS at night, and within 3 days, her itching was completely gone. So now she has been relieved of this terrible itching, and also has no signs of sinus infection, bronchitis, or ear infection. I know that my original concern was the possibility that the CS was interfering with her cyclosporine levels, but we were not able to conclusively find out if it was a problem or not. There were too many other contributing factors..............but it seems more unlikely than likely. I have given her CS on numerous occasions in the past without any discrepancy in her levels. Also, we DO know for certain that the CS and salt combination was the cause of her itching..............we just still don't really know why her cyclosporine levels were abnormal.............but they are stable now. Of all these things, I am glad! I am a new person, now that I am getting sleep! ~:-} I really want to thank everyone for being so helpful, and so concerned, you guys (not to leave out the gals <grin>) are a blessing!............... Christiane ~:-}
