Although I am definitely no virus expert I'll attempt to answer 2 of the questions, below, as it relates to my experience.

Is this right?> Yes, that's how it works, except that if you have a virus program installed, as the "highlighting" drops to that preview line that contains the embedded virus message, your anti-virus engine reads the message, finds the virus and encapsules it and the warning window pops up (you must have that option checked in your anti-virus program's configuration, i.e. to signal an alert/prompt so that you can tell it whether to delete, put in a vault, etc.) > I can't find anyway to turn off the preview pane. So the best I can do is > highlight the Black message, for example, then delete it. But am I > succeptable to the virus the moment I highlight the message, or not?> No, not if you have your anti-virus program enabled (virus-shield running in the background, that it is running is indicated by the icon in the taskbar. > Please - no lectures, just help me with the above. I don't know if Norton is one of those, whereas McAfee is. > Yes, I got attacked by the Kak virus, but Norton AV quaranteed it. A friend helped delete such a file before, > but I don't remember where it is - perhaps somewhere in the registry? > Anyone know how to get rid of the "Driver memory error" message?> A few months ago Marshall Dudley posted to the list how to find and get rid of the .kak and one other worm-type file, if I remember correctly you can do this by typing .kak into the "search" for files and folders window either from the "start" button or via "Windows Explorer" menu. And then simply deleting the ".kak" file(s) IF any pop up in that search. Or run the Norton anti-virus program manually. The "Driver memory error" is not likely to be caused by this virus, from my experience it's a RAM problem. Too many small programs running at once, eating up your RAM, not leaving enough memory space (RAM type) beginning at start-up and continuously running cramping the RAM cache which leads Windows to get confused and lose all sorts of things (mine keeps losing the printer). Is it a ".DLL error"? Whether it's for your recent Internet Explorer or any other program you run the safest thing to do is to uninstall via the Control Panel uninstaller and then re-install after having turned off all other running programs. However, your best bet is probably to go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base web page and look up the specific error message and how to fix it. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
