Back in the dark ages the amanita muscaria [fly agaric] mushroom was valued as an intoxicant. But it contained toxic sustances as well as the active ingrediant. The nobles would solicit peasants to consume the mushroom for their own pleasure and urinate into a container. The peasants kidneys would filter out the toxins without affecting the desired chemical compounds. Then the nobles would either drink the urine or dry it into a powder. They would cycle this substance through over and over again. Ken
