I know Bac> several locals that came down with Cancer. Obviously no double blind studies Bac> to back that up. It is NOT a rumor. (Blumer W, Reich T: Leaded gasoline--a cause of cancer. Environmental International, 1980;3:465-471) is the article that discusses it. Here is a much condensed summary. It was done at the Institute for Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Zurich. They compared the long-term death rates of chelated and non-chelated (with EDTA) people in a matched population. 59 of the adults received chelation, 172 matched control subjects did not. During the 18 years of follow-up, only 1 of the 59 chelated patients (1.7 percent) died of cancer; of the 172 persons not treated with EDTA, 30 (17 percent) died of cancer, or ten times more percentage wise. Try as they might, the investigators could find NO factor other than chelation to explain the vast disparity in cancer mortality. Their conclusion? Chelation was solely responsible for a 90 percent decrease in the incidence of cancer during the 18 year follow-up. As for deaths from all other causes- cardiovascular disease included- overall mortality rates were significantly lower in the chelation group. A skeptical University of Zurich epidemiologist who examined the data confirmed the Blumer-Reich data.
