After a good deal of reading in the archives and in the list
along with some personal observation while making CS using a 3x 9 volt
generator it became quite obvious that;

a) The recommended 1" gap between anode and cathode seemed too close since
the particle stream moved directly from anode to cathode,
re-plating to the cathode rather than staying in solution
where it was wanted. This was solved by increasing the
gap to 2" (thanks Ole Bob) and going to a 16 oz solution rather than 8 oz.
The larger volume seems to help by keeping particles away
from the cathode particulary when stirred. Much less oxidized silver
on the cathode (black sludge).

b) Particle size was too large due to excessive amperage (thanks Trem),
which was solved by adding a 1000 ohm 1/4w resistor and
a small LED in series. The result was a constant 27 volts
at 7.5 - 8 milliamps thruout the 40 minute run. The LED
seems far better than a light bulb at regulating current. I'd
like to get the amperage down even a little farther, any suggestions?
I'm thinking of adding a pot rather than the 1K resistor.

c) Stirring appears to be essential to getting a high
quality product. I will be adding a .99c RS motor next
time I get to town. This batch was hand stirred
every minute or two thru the entire process.

The result is nice clear, slightly cloudy CS with no sign
of any drop-out after 48 hours. It has a moderately strong metalic taste.
Suggestions are welcome since I am fairly new to this. TIA.
